CLEAST EATWOOD

You may recall Cleast Eatwood from their super fantastic Electric Feel cover the other month. Gee, that was a stunner, and accordingly, I've been keeping a very close eye on what moves the delightful Swedish twosome make next. Here's Get Related, another slice of mellow electronic pop. The vocals are drenched in liquid gold gorgeousness, the shuttering drums always head-nodding and the bleeps and bloops no less than perfect.

TALONS

The new Talons record is dropping on Saturday here in Australia on my new fave label, Rice Is Nice, and it's a corker of a record. Kind of not what you'd expect to see on this blog, but it's such a tight little ball of reckless noise and energy that you can't help but be won over by it.

FLIGHT FACILITIES

I managed to hear the new Bag Raiders remix package that's out real soon on Bang Gang 12 Inches, and it is a cracker. Mixes courtesy of Whitenoise, Shinichi Osawa, K.I.M. and hot new things Flight Facilities. The Flight Facilities mix is a standout for sure, totally genius.

While those mixes are under wraps for now, scope out their previous mix for Sneaky Sound System's 16. Top notch Euro-disco strutting music.

RUSS CHIMES

I put together a brief post about the new Valerie And Friends compilation that's dropping on Bandroom Records and ESR, but as the package is dropping this week, I figured a reminder wouldn't go astray.

It basically reads as the definitive primer for the Valerie movement/collective/sound; all synth-heavy jams ideal for night drives and neon cruises. There's plenty of standout tracks including Anoraak's Long Distance Hearts, Loose Shus' Red Sonja and the studio version of College's The Light Of Your Dress, but one tune that's got me juiced most of all is Daytona from Russ Chimes. In classic Chimes fashion, Daytona speeds along with pounding beats and some wailing synths straight out of TV theme.

SNOB SCRILLA

Without exaggeration, this jam has been on chronic repeat ever since it came my way last month. But what can you expect, really? It’s Snob Scrilla teaming up with Australia’s finest production team, Bag Raiders, for a monster of a track. Seriously, they just throw the works into this; some pummeling beats, booty rhymes, classic Bag Raiders synth-heroics and this cosmic lounge breakdown that Pharrell would be jealous of. Hop on this one ASAP.

STRAVARDO

I spoke about Stravardo at the beginning of the year as a way of ushering in Spencer's (of Damage-infamy) new project. The guy's been pretty quiet since then, only producing little bits of spacey electro goodness when his busy schedule allows it. But thankfully, those little morsels have been quality.

Here's Stravardo's reworking of College's well-loved She Never Came Back with Electric Youth on vox. It's definitely a twist on the original which had a lot of bounce to it, but instead Stravardo slows things down for a more languid and dreamier feel. It's a nice touch and hopefully an indication of what's to come from the guy.

HEY TODAY!

Bang Gang 12 Inches have made another killer move by hooking up with German electroboys Hey Today! for a huge, banging EP. I haven't heard straight-up electro of this quality in what feels like forever. You and the scene in general need these guys. Badly.

I love the original something massive as well as the Bobmo remix, but for I copped this Van She Tech remix off of my homies Pedestrian, and as any blogger knows, you don't sleep on VST.

TED AND FRANCIS

Sydney-based disco team, Ted & Francis are at last releasing their debut EP. It's a tasty little package to be sure, housing the already well loved Erlend. What's taken me though, is the G.L.O.V.E.S. remix of said track, which is transformed from dancefloor ballad to an exquisitely smooth RNB joint that would work just as well for freaking Jagged Edge. Seriously good stuff, uh-huh.

Ted & Francis - Erlend (G.L.O.V.E.S. Remix) [YS]

Expect a lot more from G.L.O.V.E.S. in the near future. I can't reveal much, but it's going to be really amazing.

MAGISTRATES

Magistrates have been on my radar since Make This Work rocketed by last year like a rather lovely slice of British soul. They're back with this newie single, Heartbreak, and whilst it's a departure from that blue-eyed soul vibe, it's still very much a jaw dropper. It's got the tinkling synths and driving drums of a chart-straddling '80s pop tune and some deep-lung'd vocals. Gem.

MALCOLM MCLAREN

This has been on repeat all day. I don't think it was ever cool, but it's pretty damn special.

VALERIE AND FRIENDS

Big big big. The first Valerie compilation is upon us! And I'm super excited to say the least. It's Valerie And Friends out at the end of the month on Bandroom Records and ESR. The comp doesn't just rehash old Valerie gold, it's sorted with new tracks from your fave Valerie kids like Anoraak, Russ Chimes and The Outrunners, so score for that. The package is rounded out with some choice cuts from their best pals like Jupiter, Electric Youth and Loose Shus. So so good to have a definitive Valerie release. Look out for it in the next fortnight.

YUSSUF JERUSALEM

Thanks to Bobmo for repping these guys go hard. Not that I'd really know, but from this I would have to agree with him that Yussuf Jerusalem are the best garage rock band in France. Must hear.

THE MONO

Now this is good. I think it's kind of like if half the Rakes died, and then one of them turned into a girl and they decided to play a ghostly version of angular guitar indie with twists of electronic production.

I don't know why half the band have to die, maybe they could just retire, or move to Rutland.

Anyway, we're talking about The Mono, brilliant, fun, new, exciting, super delicious two piece. Enjoy them.

SPOD

Here's some oldies, but make no mistake, they're very much goodies. They're from Australian artist/producer/prankster Spod, who's been terrorizing the locals for a few calenders now with lots of craziness. He just released a new 7" on Rice Is Nice the other month backed with a dangerously good cover of 2 Live Crew's We Want Some Pussy. Hot shit right?

Here's two of the dude's classic remixes, one for theredsunband, the other a "no-effing-way" 8-Bit mix for Wolfmother. We need more of this.

DCUP

It was just Friday that I was spilling praise for Sydney kid DCUP and his confident electro swagger. Well, no sooner had I hit publish on said post did I receive a terrific new remix from the dude. This one's of the seminal (yes, I did say seminal) Damn Arms single, Destination Pt. I, and it delivers some really joyous moments. Expect to see a wave of mixes come out soon in the wake of the remix competition from Spank Records and then the remix EP out soon on Bang Gang 12 Inches. Until then, this one is sitting pretty.

BUILD

You’re probably sick to death of Empire Of The Sun remixes by now, but I promise promise promise that this one is worth it. It’s from Build, who you may remember from his other terrific remixes for the likes of Ladyhawke and the Teenagers. Like I said when I last featured Build on Hyperbole, the guy knows what he’s doing. His style is locked down and he plays really tight for someone with only a few tracks under his belt. Definitely one to watch in 2009.

Empire Of The Sun – We Are The People (Build Remix) [YS]

We’ll hopefully hear more from Build soon as he’s assured me that he’s working on some original tracks and collaborating with a vocalist. Major.

TRAPS

Today marks the release of the latest Traps 7" single, which is great for several reasons. The obvious first reason being that, hey, it's Traps, they're fucking terrific (do I swear too much?) so every new song they release is something to jump on instantly. Another reason is that it's out through fantastic new AUS imprint, Rice Is Nice. It's home to Traps, Spod and Talons with more goodies on the way. Definitely another Australian label to love.

Traps - Standard Life [YS]

Grab the 7" over here so that Rice Is Nice knows how much you dig them. Sure, I don't need my girlfriend to say that she loves me all the time, but it is lovely to hear it after all. Do the same for Traps and Rice Is Nice, okayz?

DCUP

Shit shit shit. I've been meaning to do this post for so damn long. Around a month back, I got the tip off about DCUP from my blog brethren at Blouse, and I checked him out and I remembered picking up his rather excellent Teenagersintokyo remix. I was totally impressed by how far he'd come and how he'd still managed to stay under the radar. I was meant to spread the word and have him a secret no longer. Woops.

Basically, he's got electro-disco down. From the perfectly performed synth squiggles, to the bounding bass synth stabs and glam sweeps, it's all there. And then the dude's got the cheek to rip up old soul-house divas and turn up the '90s knob for some cheese-grinning glee.

You should probably start loving this music today. He's been scooped up by Sweat It Out now, so add him on MySpace as he won't have 100-ish friends for much longer.

WOLF GANG

Fuck everything else, this is the band that you need to hear right now. They're Wolf Gang from the UK and they have taken a hold of me.

Their demos are seriously impressive, with broad strokes of sweeping drama and some undeniable chamber pop smarts. Simply amazing.

They've barely been around for a blink of an eye, but what they've got going on is so damn strong that I can assure they're worth getting very, very excited about.
