Question Time

Putting on my Hipster Runoff cap/oversized tee for a moment, I have a question. How do y'all feel about re-releases? Not in the 10th/15th/200th Anniversary editions of albums but more like bands re-releasing old singles as new. I didn't really mind it when people like Bloc Party or the Futureheads did it because we'd get nice new B-Sides. But I don't know. It's happening more and more. Cut Copy just rebooted Hearts On Fire for another spin last month, right? Well, sure, that tune was only released on a limited run of vinyl and didn't even get a video. But there's a part of me that feels like it may just be capitalising on Cut Copy's expanding audience. And if it means that Far Away misses out on a single release then I'll be even more unhappy.

The reason I bring this up is because Van She's Kelly is getting re-released ahead of V's street date in August. I love Kelly. It's some seminal Australian synth-pop. But the song itself is damn old. I will honestly say that the re-recording they've done sound amazing, but wouldn't it be like the Juggz re-releasing Raised By Wolves as their next single or (Lost) Valentinos came back with Man With The Gun? It's a blissful pop tune to be sure, one that'll hopefully allow them to cro$$over somewhat when the disc drops but it just seems a little odd. Obviously everyone who reads this blog knows the tune so how do you feel? Are you excited for a bunch of new remixes? Would prefer to hear another track off the album (which is really good I should add)? Anonymous comments are encouraged.

Van She - Strangers (Strip Steve Remix)

And no, we're not going to talk about the cover art.

I would prefer to hear "Filthy Licks" or something else. Kelly was a solid track though.

Maybe the new album is just shit and there is nothing they have that will sell as well as the original stuff?

I wonder how long until Cut Copy or one of these guys bring out a "Best Of" compilation?

And when is the next "Leave Them All Behind" coming out?

Also feel like sharing?

when it comes to a song like kelly i'm all for a new remix or whateva, cos its just such a great song. kind of reignites my love for it.

but in the lead up to a new album i think they should have released another track from it.

Van She are the laziest funkers going around. They should stop remixing trash like the bravery and give the fans what they want.

Hearts on fire is a bit diff I think as it's one of the most dfloor friendly tracks on IGC and it is from the new album. HOF released like a year ago. Kelly released like 3.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Sharing is caring

Ha, the Raised By Wolves video! It'd be great if that got some plays on whichever channels actually play videos these days. Made the guys look a bit evil though.

I don't leak albums. Full stop.

I think that the tune serves a great introduction to Van She for peeps who've not heard them before, but just find it a bit frustrating that something else from the album didn't get the nod ahead of that. Hopefully there'll be a bunch more singles to follow and the band will do really really well.

New version of Kelly sucks ass! It has extra words!

And Nicky turned into a pedophile?

leave them be... at least for a decade

hope to hear some new stuff

don't like hearing the tracks we were listening to years ago being re-edited, re-tuned and re-releases just so it's more palatable for the mainstream

being the mainstream stifles progression

keep the edge
